As the "psychedelic renaissance" continues to gain speed, it's important to consider the implications of legalization. I believe that community based organizations will become more important than ever as psilocybin is legitimized in the mainstream, and is legalized, medicalized and commercialized. Will access to psychedelic medicine be limited to those who can afford it? How can the US get assisted therapy to the people who need it most? Will indigenous communities and their knowledge be included in the discussion? How will therapists be credentialed to ensure safe treatments? What are the current roadblocks for states working toward decriminalization? These are just a few of the many questions that need to be addressed as we move forward. As public perception and politics have the power to impact mental health research for decades, it's important to stay informed and engaged as this issue evolves.
I am honored to be speaking at The Divine Assembly in Salt Lake City (Liberty Park) on July 30 2023 to discuss some of these very topics.
